2016 IN REVIEW

2016, were have you gone?! It seems like only yesterday I was ringing in the new year whilst watching Netflix in bed....

My start to 2016 wasn't anything special. I tend not to do anything exciting for New Year; everything is overpriced, everywhere is overflowing with drunken humans and everyone seems to leave as soon as the clock strikes midnight. So I decided to stay at home with something that never disappoints, Netflix and snacks.

On the 23rd December 2015, I left my stale office job of 6 years and started a job at Costa Coffee the day after. That's right, Christmas Eve. I worked my bum off all through Christmas, New Year and for the next six months and became a very good Barista (if I do say so myself!).
But Costa was getting tiresome. We were constantly short staffed, so I always ended up working long hours, usually on my own until late and the pay was average at best.
I left my office job for a fresh start but the other reason was because I was going travelling in June. Costa was just something to keep me going until I left, but also to gain a new skill that would help me in the future. I am now a fully trained Barista and could get a job in a coffee shop anywhere in the world!

In May, I passed and received my NPLQ Lifeguard qualification that I needed for camp. It was so hard but I did it and it's another skill that could take me around the world if I really wanted.

The first six months of 2016 came and went, and before I knew it, I was on a plane to the States! Through June to September, I worked at a summer camp in Massachusetts as a lifeguard and it was a life changing experience. I have never cried or laughed so much in my entire life and I have made so many incredible friends. We partied on our days off, tanned in the sun whilst working, ate questionable food and looked after American kids who thought they were older than they actually were. Once camp was over, we travelled to 6 states and had the time of our lives in Miami, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and New York.

Then I was back to reality with no money and no job... So with the help of my dad, we handed my CV out to everyone I could think of and I got a job 2 weeks after being home!
It's a small office admin job, and it pays well. I have been here three months and while it isn't the most exciting job in the world, it pays the bills.

And that's about it for my 2016! Nothing exciting has happened since I've been back, I'm just trying to get my savings back on track. At the moment, I am working at the office and preparing my blog for a constant flow of content in the new year. I have several goals I want to achieve in 2017, so stay tuned for that in an upcoming post.

Thanks for reading!
